Fireworks and Fillers

Writer's picture: Heidi Williams MDHeidi Williams MD

Greetings! I hope everyone's summer is going well. July 4th is almost here! July 4th happens to be one of my favorite holidays. I love the patriotism, the fireworks, the outdoor fun, and the cookouts! It was also my grandparents' wedding anniversary! According to AAA, the travel numbers for the 4th are at an all-time high, predicted to be even higher than pre-Covid stats. It is great to see Americans, and the world, returning to normalcy. As life resumes more normal patterns, it's worth taking a moment to remind you of the importance of sunscreen and water safety. I recommend zinc or titanium-based sunscreens. And this year, don't forget bug spray as well. There have been reported cases of malaria in Florida, and it's not like we're immune to those pesky insects here in the Lowcountry! And for all of the newcomers to Charleston...DON'T FEED THE ALLIGATORS!

At the office, we remain busy both with surgery and medispa services. While suntans preclude the safe delivery of some of the laser services we offer, the majority of the services we offer are appropriate all year long. Two surgeries that remain very popular right now are breast reduction and implant removal procedures. Breast reductions remain one of the most (if not the most) common plastic surgery procedures performed. While concerns over breast implant illness drive some women to remove their implants, other reasons for the explanations are related to the aging nature of the implants with possible associated ruptures and deflations (in the case of saline implants). For many women, menopausal changes that occurred after having implants placed led to an increase in volume, making the presence of implants cumbersome. So for these women, the process of having implants removed and the breasts lifted is in essence a form of breast reduction. Unfortunately, insurance companies do not view things the same way and do not cover these procedures. If you find yourself contemplating breast reduction surgery or implant surgery, feel free to give us a call and we are happy to answer your questions.

If you missed the flash sale we ran yesterday, don't fret. We have some other specials running through the 4th for Botox and Fillers! See the specials page on the website or our social media posts. I hope you have a great Independence Day. I am going to leave you with a great old REM song since night swimming is one of my favorite things to do (but not the skinny dipping part, lol)!

'Til next time,

Heidi Williams
